How I approach Therapy

My approach to therapy is grounded in a multicultural, trauma-informed framework that considers the full context of your experiences, both your individuality and the systems that you've navigated.

I intentionally make space for your personal values, background, intersecting identities, and the cultural and institutional environments that have shaped you. Each session is built on: Safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment.

Interventions

Interventions are intentionally selected to align with your needs, readiness for change, and therapeutic goals. These approaches are used to help you:

  • Understand patterns in how you think and response

  • Reduce anxiety, overthinking, pressure, trauma, and emotional overwhelm

  • Build more flexibility and confidence in how you navigate challenges

What it's like to work together

Therapeutic Relationship

We work together as a team and collaborate on what direction to take in therapy. You won’t be left trying to figure things out on your own or wondering where therapy is going.

How I show up

I balance reflective listening, empathy, processing emotions, advice, and challenges to help you move toward your goals.

What I Ask of you

A willingness to show up honestly. You don’t need to have everything figured out, but being open about what’s working and what’s not helps us adjust and make therapy more effective.

Experience of Therapy

The pace, depth, and focus of therapy shifts based on what you need. Some sessions go deeper, while others are more practical and focused on strategies you can use in your day-to-day life.

Background and training

  • PhD in Counseling Psychology, with a specialty in group therapy

  • Certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Dr Christina Tsoi, PhD

Why do you work with high-achieving individuals?

I’ve worked in high-performance environments and understand how easy it is to function well externally while carrying a lot internally. I’m especially interested in helping people build a way of functioning that is both effective and sustainable.

What is important to you in your work as a psychologist?

Creating a space that is both empathetic and practical. I value helping people not just understand themselves, but make changes that actually improve how they experience their day-to-day lives.

How do I know if this is a good fit for me?

The best way to know is through a brief consultation. It’s a chance to share what’s been going on, ask questions, and get a sense of whether this feels like the right fit. There’s no pressure to move forward.

How do I get started with therapy?

Getting started begins with a free 15-minute consultation where we talk through what has been feeling challenging and what you want to change. This is a chance to ask questions, get a sense of the process, and see if therapy feels like a good fit for you. If it does, we will move forward with a plan that feels clear, supportive, and aligned with your goals.
