Helping you manage stress, anxiety, burnout, and major life transitions that come with this stage of life
College and graduate school can be an exciting time, often marking the beginning of a new chapter in your life. It also comes with real changes as you continue developing socially, emotionally, mentally, and professionally. You may be navigating new responsibilities, relationships, and expectations while trying to figure out who you are and where you are going. It is a period where a lot is happening at once and can feel very overwhelming. At Mind Stretch Psychology, we support students like you who want to succeed in your program without feeling like a failure, unable to manage stress, or held back by anxiety.
College and graduate school can become overwhelming as you balance expectations, relationships, and decisions about your future. It can very quickly become overwhelming. You may start to notice:
Constant tension or difficulty relaxing, even during downtime
Overthinking assignments, conversations, or future decisions
Feeling mentally drained no matter how much you rest
Procrastination or difficulty starting even important tasks
Fear of failure or feeling like what you do is never enough
Doubting your abilities or feeling like you don’t belong
Trouble concentrating, retaining information, or staying on track
Loss of motivation or feeling disconnected from your work
Feeling isolated, disconnected, or not like yourself
Struggling to maintain friendships or relationships
Feeling overwhelmed by expectations about success or career paths
Uncertainty about who you are or what direction to take

Therapy is designed to fit into the reality of college and graduate life. It gives you a space to step away from constant deadlines, expectations, and pressure, and focus on what is actually going on for you. In the beginning, we focus on understanding your experiences and what you want to feel different. You do not need to have everything figured out. We start with what feels most present. From there, therapy becomes a place to slow things down and make sense of patterns. You may notice how stress builds, how you respond to pressure, and how your thoughts affect how you feel. You will also learn practical ways to manage anxiety, improve focus, and handle challenges more effectively. When helpful, we may also focus more directly on areas like trauma or perfectionism. Sessions are collaborative and adapted to you. Some weeks focus on what is happening right now, while others focus on deeper patterns or past experiences that are still affecting you.
Therapy helps you manage academic pressure, reduce mental overload, and navigate school in a way that feels more sustainable, focused, and manageable in your daily life.

Finding the right therapist as a college or graduate student can feel overwhelming, especially when many options sound similar. At Mind Stretch Psychology, therapy is built around the realities of student life, including academic pressure, relationships, and decisions about the future. We work with many high-achieving students who are used to pushing through stress and holding themselves to high standards, and focus on helping you manage that pressure in a way that actually works for you. Therapy is adapted to your pace, your goals, and your experiences so you can handle stress more effectively, feel more confident, and move forward without feeling constantly overwhelmed.
It can be hard to know when to reach out for support in college or graduate school. You might tell yourself you should be able to handle it or that things will calm down after this week or this semester, yet something still feels off. You may feel more anxious than usual, constantly overwhelmed, or like you are pushing through each day without much space to breathe. Many students start therapy in this exact place, often because of a combination of stress, pressure, and expectations rather than one clear reason. Therapy can help at any point, and you do not have to wait until things feel extreme. If stress or anxiety is affecting your daily life, it can be a place to understand what is going on and figure out how to move forward in a way that actually works for you.
No. Therapy focuses on your experience, not a label. Many college students begin therapy without a formal diagnosis. The goal is to understand what you are going through and help you feel more supported, more clear, and more in control.
Yes. Therapy for college and university students is offered virtually across Utah, including Salt Lake City. This allows you to access support from the comfort and privacy of your own space. If you are located outside of Utah, you are welcome to reach out to discuss options.
The length of therapy depends on what you want support with and how you want to move through the process. Some students begin to notice meaningful changes within a shorter period of time, while others choose ongoing support throughout college. Therapy is adapted to your pace and what feels most helpful for you.
Getting started begins with a free 15-minute consultation where we talk through what has been feeling challenging and what you want to change. This is a chance to ask questions, get a sense of the process, and see if therapy feels like a good fit for you. If it does, we will move forward with a plan that feels clear, supportive, and aligned with your goals.
We offer therapy in Utah and globally
