What is ADHD?

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a developmental condition that affects how the brain manages attention, organization, self-control, and follow-through. It begins in childhood, although some people are not diagnosed until adolescence or adulthood, especially if they have learned ways to work around their difficulties. ADHD can affect school, work, relationships, and everyday responsibilities. It does not mean someone is lazy, unmotivated, or less capable. At Mind Stretch Psychology, ADHD testing and assessments are designed to help you understand whether ADHD is part of what is going on and how it may be affecting your everyday life.

Is ADHD testing right for me?

It can be difficult to know whether what you are experiencing is ADHD or something else. ADHD testing may be helpful if you struggle with focus, organization, time management, executive functioning, forgetfulness, or completing tasks and these patterns are affecting your work, school, relationships, or daily life. A comprehensive ADHD evaluation can help clarify whether your symptoms are consistent with ADHD, identify other factors that may be contributing, and provide personalized recommendations for what to do next. You do not need to be certain you have ADHD before reaching out for testing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About ADHD Testing

Can I have ADHD even if I did well in school or at work?

Yes. Some people with ADHD perform very well academically or professionally while relying on extra effort, structure, pressure, or coping strategies to keep up. Strong performance does not necessarily rule out ADHD. It can be beneficial to get ADHD testing to better understand how your brain works.

What if I was never diagnosed with ADHD as a child?

You do not need to have received an ADHD diagnosis in childhood to be evaluated as an adult. Your psychologist will look at your developmental history and patterns over time to understand whether ADHD symptoms may have been present earlier in life.

Can ADHD look different in women or high-achieving adults?

Yes. ADHD is not always obvious from the outside. Some women and high-achieving adults develop strong coping strategies that can make symptoms less noticeable, even when focus, organization, time management, or executive functioning require significant effort. It can be helpful to get an ADHD evaluation to understand if ADHD is impacting you and how it shows up in your life.

What happens if the evaluation shows that I do not have ADHD?

The goal of ADHD testing is to understand what best explains your difficulties, not to confirm a diagnosis you already suspect. If ADHD is not the best explanation, your results can still provide useful information about other factors that may be contributing and what support may be helpful.

How much does ADHD testing cost?

A traditional comprehensive ADHD evaluation typically cost $1,200-1,400. At Mind Stretch Psychology, we offer it for $925 because we believe in providing testing that is both high-quality and more affordable. We are currently offering an End-of-Summer / Back-to-School sale for $650 ($275+ off). This offer has limited spots and available for a short period of time.

How do I get started with ADHD testing?

Getting started begins with a free 15-minute consultation where we talk through whether ADHD testing is a good fit for you. If it does, we will move forward with a plan that feels clear, supportive, and aligned with your goals.
